Weird and Wondrous

Sarah Burchill - Crafts with saga, soul and just a hint of sorcery

Materials

Blown glass

A lifelong dream, a recent craft. I work and blow glass in a modern yet traditional hotshop in Axelsberg, Stockholm, Sweden, after a course in 2017. My glasswares are all unique and experimental and I learn something new with every thing I create. Glass is the love of my life.

Lampwork

Miniature glassblowing, things created from glass rods melted in an open flame. This is the technique where I started my glass journey and it has taught me a lot about glass. Its moods, movement and possibilities. It is very different from regular glassblowing and yet so similar.

Felt

A great contrast to fire and sand - water and wool.
This year I had planned to bring my felted items and offer them at my table. There will be felted items added to my webshop as I go along.
I felted for the first time in school in the 80s and resented it, but now I find it wonderful.

Goldsmithing

I'm a trained goldsmith and have been working with jewelry proffessionally for four years at a royal purveyor. Due to a hand injury I am on hiatus from my metalwork at the moment.

Design

I was so grateful when my design won by popular vote to be turned into the annual pin for the Medieval Week 2020.
Considering how the year has developed I personally couldn't imagine a more suitable visual theme. We are all woven together, caring and loving our beautiful, magical week.
Parted yet entwined in history forever.

And The Rest

I make costumes, masks, acsessoires, do horn carvings, knit, crochet, embroider, play music, build instruments, write songs and do a thousand other things.

.. I also bake rather nifty pies.

Making a gather and blowing a bubble - the most basic routine in glassblowing.

"I want to brag about you on Facebook all the time, but that is a bit over the top, right?! I mean.. I'm your mother!"

Mom

"Stop being so annoyingly
good at everything!
You're making the rest of us look bad!"

Anonymous crafter

"You're a glassblower?
No way! Really?
..But you're a girl!!"

Dude who just emerged from the 1950's.

"Is there ANTYHING you can't do?!?"

Several people seeming frustrated

"I have NO idea what you're talking about but that sounds amazing. Call me when it's finished!""

Customer after an excited tidal wave of nerdyness.

"Is it really supposed to look like that?"

Small, mean and chicken child who then ran away. That actually hurt! Not cool, kiddo!

"What The Actual F**K?!"
